Yes, magicJack is a portable device and may be used on multiple computers.

Simply plug your magicJack into the new computer and wait for the software to appear and you will be able to make and receive calls within moments.

Only one magicJack may be used on a computer at a time.

magicJack requires power to function. If your computer, modem and/or router are not connected to a backup power supply, magicJack will not function.

Does my computer need to be on in order to make or receive calls, receive voicemails, or forward calls?

Most versions of magicJack can be connected directly to your modem or router, eliminating the need to have your computer on in order to make or receive calls.

If your magicJack is plugged into your computer, the computer must be on to make or receive calls.

What Caller ID information will I see for incoming calls?

magicJack displays the phone number of the person calling you. Caller ID Name (CNAM), which displays the name associated with the inbound phone number, is not currently a supported feature.

What Caller ID information will other people see when I call them?

Other parties with Caller ID enabled will see your name, as entered during registration, or name updates you have made using my.magicJack.com.

Important:

  • Caller ID updates may take up to one (1) week
  • Not all carriers will deliver your caller ID as entered
  • A maximum of 15 characters are allowed
  • No special characters (e.g. #, !, *, etc.) are allowed
  • If the party you are calling has your name saved in their contacts, your caller ID may instead appear as they have you listed
  • Some carriers may maintain their own caller ID database, which may not be in sync with the database magicJack utilizes
  • This feature is only available for US telephone numbers

Yes, you can block your outbound caller ID on a per-call basis.

To block your outbound caller ID, simply dial *67 before dialing the telephone number you wish to reach.

For inbound caller ID (number) issues try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Try using a different telephone with your magicJack

For inbound caller ID name issues note magicJack will not display the name of anyone who calls unless the name is already programmed into your telephone handset or your magicJack dialpad.

For outbound caller ID name issues keep in mind that each phone carrier has their own caller ID name database. While magicJack updates their own caller ID name database every week to 10 days, it is up to each individual carrier to synchronize their database with ours, which can take additional time, and which magicJack has no control over.

magicJack has no control over outbound caller ID name for Canadian numbers, which by default is set to the name associated with your magicJack account.

If it has been over one month since your service with magicJack began and your outbound caller ID name does not show with any number that you call, please contact our Customer Care team for further assistance.
